Carti has released Music. Is it worth the 5 year wait?
“A collection of profound and epic album reviews and musical articles by former astronaut and brain surgeon, Alasdair Kennedy. Reaching levels of poetry that rival Keats and Blake, the following reviews affirm Alasdair to be a prodigy, a genius and a god whose opinion is always objectively right. He is also without a doubt the most modest man in the universe.” - Alasdair Kennedy
I’ve had an ear infection for the last two weeks (I blame it on that new Playboi Carti album – which I will be reviewing soon). I haven’t been able to hear out of one ear, which isn’t convenient if you’re a music blogger. But the following songs were still beautiful/crazy enough to leave an impression. Artists featured this week include Spacey Jane, Jai’len Josey, Billy Woods, Igorrr, Frank Dambra, Restless Mosaic, Bleeth and Lana del Rey.
It’s actually been three weeks since my last roundup. In that time, a lot of new music has dropped! I could have added a few tracks to this, but I’ve tried to keep it succinct. Artists featured include Little Simz, Black Country, New Road, Bedridden, Sleigh Bells, Oswald Slain, Grete, Derya Yildirim & Grup Simsek and Ye.
This week features dynamic rapping from Lil Nas X, a mind-blowing music video from OK Go, and an unusual sampling decision from Doechii. Other artists featured below include Feeble Little Horse, Bedridden, Total F*cking Darkness, Blue Capricorn and Gianni Goblin.
This week features rap verses about the danger of AI and bubblegum metal tributes to dead dogs. Artists featured this week include J Cole, Sleigh Bells, Mark Pritchard & Thom Yorke, Tombstones In Their Eyes, Yung Lean and Fontaines DC.
Hurry Up Tomorrow is another lengthy 80s-flavoured synthpop album. It’s also The Weeknd’s final album.
It’s Valentine’s Day, but don’t expect any love songs. It’s mostly loud and unhinged stuff. Artists featured this week include Black Country, New Road (all one band), JPEGMAFIA, Courting, Ecce Shnak, Idioteque and Lady Gaga…
It’s my first track roundup of 2025. I’ve got a whole month to catch up on. Plus there are a few stray tracks from 2024 that I’ve decided to include. Artists featured include FKA Twigs, Meat Wave, Brijean, miso808, Ensemble 1, Sam T, Suki Summer, Papa Roach and Sexyy Red & Bruno Mars.
