The 10 Worst Songs of 2022

2022 gave us an array of awful viral TikTok songs, horrible soundtracks and unnecessary covers. I’ve rounded up the 10 worst examples I could find here.

Friday 2 December 2022

BEST AND WORST NEW TRACKS OF THE FORTNIGHT 02/12/2022: Metallica, Pharrell Williams, Chance the Rapper and more...

This week has everything from Pharrell beats to Metallica riffs. I did think about featuring some Christmas songs given that we're now in December (I've had artists bombarding my inbox with Christmas songs since September!), but there were too many great non-Christmassy songs that I thought deserved more attention. Other artists featured this week include Diamond Revolver, Natalie, Caleb Peters, O., Humour and Chance the Rapper.

Friday 18 November 2022

Double Review: 'Stumpwork' by Dry Cleaning and 'Hellfire' by black midi

You’ve heard of mumble rap. But what about ramble rock? Yes, that’s the term I’m now using to describe these types of bands (it’s better than ‘windmill scene’).

Friday 28 October 2022

BEST AND WORST NEW TRACKS OF THE WEEK 28/10/2022: Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Meghan Trainor and more...

After several rock-heavy weeks, this one is decidedly pop-oriented. Taylor Swift, Sam Smith and Meghan Trainor have all dropped new music (it’s like it’s 2014 again!). Meanwhile, there are underground gems from MorMor, Loren Aronov and Mar Omin.

Friday 21 October 2022

BEST AND WORST NEW TRACKS OF THE WEEK 21/10/2022: Humour, DENSE, Kelela and more…

Review of 'Will Of The People' by Muse

Muse deliver their latest batch of bombastic protest songs – which includes surprise metal riffs, an Adele-flavoured piano ballad and a random Halloween anthem.

Friday 16 September 2022

BEST AND WORST NEW TRACKS OF THE WEEK 16/09/2022: ALASKALASKA, DRAM, Bjork and more…

I’m not feeling the new Bjork song, but otherwise this week has plenty of bops. Artists featured this week include ALASKALASKA, Wooze, Omar Addis, AJAY, DRAM and Bjork.

Friday 9 September 2022

BEST AND WORST NEW TRACKS OF THE WEEK 09/09/2022: JID, Arctic Monkeys, Danny Brown and more...

R.I.P The Queen. She was an avid reader of this blog. She rang me up personally one time to tell me that she was a big fan of my experimental hip hop and metal reviews. But I won't bore you with that story. It’s time to talk about Arctic Monkeys going jazz, robot rappers and the new JID song. I haven’t done one of these roundups in three weeks, so there’s a shitload of music here to make up for it. Artists featured this week include JID, Arctic Monkeys, Danny Brown, Wednesday, Humour, Himera, Janna Pelle and FN Meka.

Friday 8 July 2022

BEST AND WORST NEW TRACKS OF THE WEEK 08/07/2022: Regressive Left, Alvvays, Cardi B and more...

It's been an entertaining week. I'm yet to see the The Rise of Gru at the cinema (I still haven't dug my suit out), but I have enjoyed watching the fall of Bojo. The music this week has not been bad either. Here are the tracks that stood out. Artists featured this week include Regressive Left, Alvvays, Greytooth, Biig Piig, Mieko Shimizu and Cardi B...

Review of 'Harry's House' by Harry Styles

Minus points for the silly album title. It sounds like a CBeebies programme. This album also contains some of Styles' most boring ballads. But otherwise, there are some fun bops here.

Monday 20 June 2022

Review of 'Famously Alive' by Guerilla Toss

Despite sounding poppier and more positive, the Boston band keep things enjoyably chaotic.

Friday 17 June 2022

Double Review: ‘Immutable’ by Meshuggah and ‘Parrhesia’ by Animals As Leaders

Immutable and Parrhesia both succeed in being face-meltingly heavy and impressively complex metal albums - even if they are both utterly exhausting to listen to.

Review of ‘Mr Morale & The Big Steppers’ by Kendrick Lamar

Mr Morale & The Big Steppers is a masterpiece – and quite possibly my favourite Kendrick album to date.

Friday 6 May 2022

It’s time to round up the best and worst tracks from the last week… wait, no the last month! ALASDAIR, WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN??? I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I spent the last three weeks trapped in an Easter egg induced coma after eating 7000 eggs. JUST KIDDING, I didn’t get any Easter eggs and spent the last three weeks crying non-stop into my pillow. Anyway, I'm back now now, so let’s do this blogging shit. Artists featured this week include 100 Gecs, Empress Of, Kirk Hammett, Flume, Similar Kind, Automatic, Bearcubs and 6ix9ine.

Wednesday 27 April 2022

Review of 'Melt My Eyez See Your Future' by Denzel Curry

Denzel is sounding less aggressive and more introspective here. And he’s jumping on some of the most stylistically diverse beats of his career. It’s an exhilarating album – but is it better than his 2018 masterpiece TA1300?

Friday 8 April 2022

BEST AND WORST NEW TRACKS OF THE WEEK 08/04/2022: Father John Misty, Toro Y Moi, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and more...

BEST AND WORST NEW TRACKS OF THE WEEK 01/04/2022: Chance the Rapper, Nigo, Ghum and more…

Justin Bieber has made it into my best tracks of the week (not an April Fool’s joke). Meanwhile, the new Nigo/Pharrell/Gunna song slaps harder than Will Smith at the Oscars. Plus, fantastic new tracks from Chance the Rapper, Ghum and The Derevolutions.

Saturday 26 March 2022

Wednesday 23 February 2022

Review of 'Dawn FM' by The Weeknd

Dawn FM is a gauntlet of synthpop bangers that takes the form of a purgatory-based radio station. It’s The Weeknd’s most energetic and conceptual album to date – and possibly his best.

Friday 18 February 2022

BEST AND WORST NEW TRACKS OF THE WEEK 18/02/2022: Vince Staples, Fontaines D.C., Benee and more...

It's been a bit windy today. Here are the songs I've been listening to while taking shelter from flying bins and trampolines. Artists featured this week include Vince Staples, Fontaines D.C., Benee, Oberka, Morning Silk and Yeat.
